SHAH ALAM, June 11 — The long-awaited construction of a new school in Bukit Antarabangsa is expected to enter the tender stage soon once a new planning permission is obtained this month.

Its state assemblyman Mohd Kamri Kamaruddin said the project experienced a slight delay after the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) requested a fresh planning permission application, despite an earlier approval having already been granted.

“The process is actually still ongoing. There was just a slight delay because MPAJ requested that the previous planning permission be resubmitted.

“We have discussed the matter with the relevant parties, and MPAJ has also given its assurance that the process will be expedited.

“If everything goes smoothly, the new planning permission is expected to be obtained this June, and the tender process can begin either in June or July,” he told Media Selangor.

Kamri added that issues involving the project site have since been resolved through coordination with the government, which owns the land, and with the Fire and Rescue Department, which owns a portion of it.

The proposed school site remains unchanged, and there are no longer any obstacles related to land status or ownership.

“I have also received confirmation that the project has not been affected by any budget cuts and remains part of the government’s education development plans,” he said.

Kamri hopes construction can begin as soon as possible, noting that Bukit Antarabangsa and Ukay Perdana have high population densities yet still lack their own schools.

The absence of a local school has forced many students to travel considerable distances each day, contributing to traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours.

“The population in this area is estimated to have reached 75,000 people, yet we still do not have our own school.

“This facility is greatly needed to reduce traffic congestion and make it easier for local children to access education,” he said.
