SHAH ALAM, June 9 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, as the captain-in-chief of the Royal Malaysian Navy, graced the naming and launching ceremony of the second Littoral Mission Ship Batch 2 (LMSB2) in Turkiye on June 7.
In a Facebook post, the Selangor Royal Office said the historic event was officially launched by the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, as the Royal Sponsor at the Istanbul Shipyard.
Her Royal Highness, adhering to global naval traditions, performed the symbolic launch by breaking a vessel containing Yassin water against the ship's bow. The water used for the ceremony was sourced from the nine mosques across the state’s nine districts.
Their Royal Highnesses were received by Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari and Navy chief Admiral Tan Sri Zulhelmy Ithnain upon arrival.

The second modern warship in the LMSB2 series was officially named Raja Laut with His Royal Highness’ consent. The name honours the late 19th-century Selangor nobleman and administrator, who was the second son of Sultan Muhammad Shah, the third Sultan of Selangor, from the Bugis Opu Daeng Chelak lineage.
The Office added that the name of this strategic naval asset symbolises bravery and high honour upon the nation’s maritime identity. The vessel is set to further enhance the Navy fleet's preparedness to comprehensively maintain the security, sovereignty, and protection of Malaysian waters.
