KUALA SELANGOR, June 7 — The venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 22nd Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and Para SUKMA Selangor 2026 is expected to be finalised this month.

State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said that among the venues currently under consideration are the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium in Kelana Jaya and Dataran Kemerdekaan in Shah Alam.

The final decision will be made based on an assessment by the Selangor SUKMA Secretariat to ensure the smooth organisation of the ceremonies.

“Among the proposals being discussed is the possibility of combining the SUKMA and Para SUKMA opening ceremonies for the purposes of coordination and prudent cost management.

“However, a decision on the matter is still under consideration and will be finalised in the near future,” he said.

Najwan was speaking to Media Selangor during the launch of the official theme song and the unveiling of the official mascot for SUKMA Selangor 2026 last night.

Regarding preparations for the Games, he said that all previously announced competition venues remain unchanged.

In a related development, Selangor's athletes are well-prepared ahead of the sporting event.

“I believe Selangor athletes are well prepared, highly motivated, and fully focused on their training without any distractions.

“The final list of athletes who will represent Selangor at SUKMA will be announced by the Selangor Sports Council in the near future,” he said.

The Games are scheduled to take place from August 15 to 24, while Para SUKMA will be held from September 5 to September 10.

Approximately 469 events across 37 sports will be contested at 52 venues involving nine districts throughout Selangor.

Para SUKMA will feature 316 events across 10 sports, which will be held in the districts of Petaling and Klang.
