MB hopes RM30 fare subsidy boosts public transport use

SHAH ALAM, June 2 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari expressed hope that the RM30 monthly fare subsidy under the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package will encourage more people to use public transport.

He urged the public to make the best use of the assistance and hoped it would help ease the burden of rising cost-of-living pressures.

“As part of the RM131 million Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package that I announced previously, applications for the public transport fare subsidy for six months have opened on June 1, 2026.

“Make full use of this opportunity and prepare early through the NINE application. May this assistance ease daily commuting, while encouraging more people to use public transport,” he posted on Facebook today.

Applications via the NINE mobile app are open to the first 50,000 applicants.

Eligible Selangor citizens will receive a fare subsidy of RM30 per month for six months, subject to the stipulated terms and approval.

Previously, in April, Amirudin announced that RM131 million would be allocated for the state’s resilience package to address the impact of the geopolitical crisis in West Asia.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening food security, reducing cost-of-living pressures and increasing the usage of public transport in the state.

Under the plan, the state government will also distribute RM100 Kita Selangor vouchers to 50,000 households for six months to aid living cost pressures and provide free meals to students in 873 schools statewide from August, among other things.
