SEPANG, May 27 — The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) has allocated RM3 million to a community fund to support the development of the Orang Asli community in Kampung Bukit Baja, Dengkil, following the relocation of residents to a new settlement area.
State executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the allocation covers customary funds, education and community development, including the provision of basic facilities.
“This RM3 million is specifically allocated for customary funds, education, development, and we will provide a hall as well as administration for the tok batin (village chief) and any activities related to the Orang Asli community itself,” he said.
Borhan was speaking after the handover ceremony for the land proceeds to Kampung Orang Asli Bukit Baja entrepreneurs at the PKNS Cyber Valley Gallery yesterday.
He added that the fund also aims to assist the education of Orang Asli children, including schooling and higher education, as well as government assistance.
"The overall cost of relocating the community is estimated at nearly RM90 million, which includes the construction of houses and supporting facilities," Borhan said.
The new settlement area, covering about 8.8 acres, is expected to begin development in July, with construction expected to take around one year.
“In early July, we will start construction of houses for 56 families. We expect the houses to be completed in one year,” he said.
