PM assures stable fuel supply, BUDI95 rate to stay at RM1.99 per litre

BUKIT MERTAJAM, May 26 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today assured Malaysians the country’s fuel supplies are stable despite the West Asia conflict and mounting pressure on global energy supplies.

He said the government is committed to maintaining subsidised RON95 price at RM1.99 per litre.

Anwar, who is also finance minister, said Malaysia’s good relations with several countries, including Iran, has helped ensure smooth oil supply flow through the Strait of Hormuz.

“Our good ties with Iran have helped ensure sufficient oil supply so far, at least until July. Diesel supply is also stable now, although there were slight disruptions earlier with diesel not being available, and the price went up a little as insurance costs and shipping charges have also gone up.

“However, RON95 remains at RM1.99,” he said after handing over sacrificial cattle at the Seberang Perai Tengah District Mosque today.

Also present was Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Anwar said the government had introduced various aid measures, including BUDI Madani RON95 (BUDI95), to help farmers, fishermen, tractor operators, school bus operators and the transport sector cope with rising diesel costs.

Meanwhile, he said Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian would call him at 6pm today to discuss the tensions in West Asia.

“That good relationship has helped us. When Iran was attacked by the Israeli Zionist regime, we expressed our sympathy, and later, when we faced difficulties with our oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz, we became among the first to be allowed to pass through the Strait and arrive in Pengerang,” he said.

Anwar added that Malaysia remains grateful that the country’s fuel supply is under control compared with those of neighbouring countries like the Philippines.
