SHAH ALAM, Oct 9 — The federal government will allocate more than RM80 billion for subsidies, assistance, and incentives next year to ease the cost-of-living burden on Malaysians, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“These include an estimated RM40 billion in fuel subsidies, which are expected to remain high, and nearly RM3.3 billion in assistance through the Social Welfare Department (JKM),” he said when tabling Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Anwar added that the government remains committed to addressing the cost of living by improving policies to ensure people’s well-being.

It raised the electricity bill protection threshold last month from 600 kilowatt-hours to 800 kilowatt-hours per month, benefiting more than eight million domestic consumers, among other things.

Similarly, the government raised the monthly eligibility limit under the BUDI95 subsidised petrol scheme to 300 litres, while BUDI Diesel assistance for jeep and pickup truck owners was increased to 400 litres a month.

He said that in September, about 100,000 users, or less than one per cent, fully utilised their 300-litre BUDI95 quota.

"15,000 diesel users with jeeps and pickup trucks had used their full 400-litre monthly BUDI Diesel allocation. This proves that the monthly quotas provided are sufficient for the needs of Malaysians,” Anwar said.
