WCE Section 3 to be done by year-end, set to facilitate north-south logistics

SHAH ALAM, May 22 — Section 3 of the West Coast Expressway (WCE) will be done by December and complete the loop with Sections 1 and 2 to strengthen Malaysia’s transport network and logistics sector, said WCE Holdings Bhd.

According to a Sinar Harian report, WCE Holdings said the new section would facilitate traffic flow, including heavy vehicles, from the northern to southern peninsula and reduce congestion along existing main routes.

It added that Section 3 — a 10.1km stretch between the Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS) and North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE)/Federal Highway Route 2 interchanges — is set to open in the first quarter of 2027.

“WCE can help reduce traffic, with routes flatter than other highways, which makes fuel use more economical especially for heavy vehicles,” it said.

WCE Holdings explained that the network is also a strategic link to several transport hubs including Port Klang, the Lumut Port, and the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) through Banting.

Eight of the 11 WCE sections have been opened, recording a daily traffic flow of around 100,000 vehicles.

WCE Holdings said several fuel stations and rest stops are being built along the route, as well as high-powered EV charging facilities in Sungai Nyior, Bukit Kapar, Johan Setia dan Sijangkang, with chargers in remaining locations to be built by year-end.

“(During) festive seasons, traffic flow could reach between 160,000 and 180,000 daily, with the aim that when all 11 sections are done, it will be around 300,000 vehicles per day.

“There are plans for there to be fuel stations along the WCE, they are just still (being planned),” WCE Holdings said.
