PETALING JAYA, Aug 24 — WCE Holdings Bhd is confident traffic on the West Coast Expressway (WCE) would double once the final three sections in Selangor open in the first quarter (Q1) of 2027.
Its chief executive officer Lyndon Alfred Felix said the increase would help the concessionaire see positive cash flow within three years and break even within five years, according to indicative projections based on the highway’s targeted full completion in Q1 next year.
He noted that the final three sections — Section 3 (KESAS to the Federal Highway), Section 4 (Federal Highway to the North Klang Straits Bypass) and Section 7 (Assam Jawa to Tanjong Karang) — cut through some of Selangor’s most densely populated areas.
“The three remaining sections are all in Selangor, and traffic volume in Selangor is typically double that of Perak. These sections are also connected to the most densely populated areas along the entire alignment,” he told reporters after WCE Holdings’ annual general meeting at Crystal Plaza here today.
Lyndon said the three sections would keep WCE on track to meet its projected traffic forecasts.
Eight of the 314.5km highway’s 11 sections are operational, with the remaining stretches to open in Q1 2027, completing the route from Selangor’s Banting to Perak’s Taiping.
“Based on current projections, following the targeted full completion of WCE in Q1 2027, cash flow break-even is indicated around FY2030, while profitability break-even is indicated around FY2032.”
However, he said these are indicative and will ultimately depend on the actual average daily traffic (ADT) and traffic throughput once the entire alignment is completed.
On why Section 4 remains closed despite being completed in March, Lyndon said it cannot be opened ahead of Section 3 as both must be linked by an elevated interchange.
Lyndon added that WCE Holdings previously proposed a temporary link, but the government decided it would be safer to open both sections simultaneously once the connecting infrastructure is done.
