SYDNEY, May 9 — The state administration aims to strengthen ties with Australian education and research institutions through various high-impact programmes.

Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation) or MBI group chief executive officer Dato’ Saipolyazan M Yusop said the collaboration would focus on strategic fields including artificial intelligence (AI), green technology, cybersecurity and data science.

He said the partnership would also encompass health research and digital innovation initiatives aimed at strengthening Selangor’s readiness to navigate the challenges of the 21st-century global economy.

“Collaboration in these fields can open up more opportunities for academic exchanges, student mobility, research development and the transfer of expertise between institutions in Selangor and Australia.

“I believe a state’s strength in the future will no longer be measured solely by physical development, but by its ability to build an ecosystem of knowledge, innovation and international networks."

He was speaking at a dinner event with the Selangor diaspora in Australia at Crown Plaza Sydney Darling Harbour last night, held in conjunction with the 2026 Selangor Overseas Students Convention (KOMSEL), attended by nearly 100 individuals.

He added that the collaboration mirrors efforts already implemented with Germany, China and the United States for international technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programmes.

Meanwhile, Saipolyazan said Selangor’s diaspora and students in Australia play an important role as a bridge connecting the state with the global communities in various areas, including education, industry and international networks.

He said the group not only contributes knowledge and expertise, but also brings valuable global perspectives and a strong drive to build a brighter future for Selangor.

“We remain committed to strengthening human capital development, including creating opportunities for young talent and building an ecosystem that connects education, industry and global opportunities for the wellbeing of future generations.

“With the spirit of collaboration, I believe Selangor will continue progressing as a developed state that leads the national economy and earns respect on the international stage."

Saipolyazan said KOMSEL reflects the state government’s commitment to engaging with and recognising the potential of Selangor youths pursuing knowledge and excellence on the international stage.

“Seeing Selangor youths standing proudly abroad with intellectual capability and global competitiveness gives great confidence that the future of the state is being shaped by an extraordinary generation.

“They are small ambassadors of the state, carrying the image of Selangor as a progressive, inclusive and dynamic state that is always looking ahead in facing the challenges of the modern world,” he said.
