SHAH ALAM, May 7 — Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) said several incidents involving flash floods, fallen trees and a landslide occurred following continuous heavy rain around Petaling Jaya yesterday afternoon.
According to MBPJ, areas affected by flash floods included Medan Selera 223, PJS 2/3, PJS 4/21B, PJS 6, Jalan 17/21H and Taman Buana Perdana, although the flood waters in all affected locations were reported to have fully receded by 8.43 pm.
“At the same time, several fallen tree incidents were reported at Jalan Barat (Wisma Daju), Jalan PJU 8/3A, Jalan Templer and behind Restoran Sederhana in Section 8, with all incidents having been or currently being addressed by MBPJ’s technical teams.
“In addition, a landslide incident occurred in Section 20/14 due to slope failure involving a drain structure, which requires immediate repair works,” the statement said.

In response, the MBPJ Rapid Squad together with technical units were mobilised to carry out clean-up operations, continuous monitoring and risk management at all affected locations to ensure the situation returns to safe and controlled conditions.
The public has been advised to remain cautious, avoid affected areas and refrain from driving through flooded roads as it could pose safety risks and endanger lives.
MBPJ also advised the public not to go near large drains and rivers due to strong water currents, adding that it will continue monitoring the situation from time to time.
Earlier, media reports stated that a food court at Jalan 51A/223, Section 51A, Petaling Jaya was hit by flash floods, with water levels rising nearly 1.2 metres and submerging several vehicles in the parking area.
However, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said water levels had started to recede during operations and no evacuation of victims was carried out.
