SHAH ALAM, May 4 — A palm oil spill following a tanker lorry accident in Bandar Sultan Sulaiman, Port Klang yesterday has not affected water sources, according to the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS).

In a Facebook post, LUAS said it was immediately deployed to the scene at about 1.30 pm to conduct checks, including identifying potential risks to the Sungai Klang.

“LUAS inspections found a small quantity of oil spill flowing into a nearby drain,” the statement said.

As a control measure, LUAS said its team placed oil absorbent pads along the spill flow and installed oil booms in the drainage area to prevent further spread.

“Further observations found the situation at the site to be under control, with no risk to water sources and no water treatment plants located along the affected flow,” the post said.

LUAS also said oil samples had been collected and sent to the Department of Chemistry Malaysia for further analysis.

At the same time, the authority expressed appreciation to the New North Klang Straits Bypass Highway and the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia for their cooperation in carrying out mitigation and clean-up works at the scene.

Earlier, media reported that a palm oil tanker had overturned and spilled its cargo onto the road heading towards Bandar Sultan Sulaiman on Saturday.

North Klang district police chief S. Vijaya Rao said that at about 1.55 pm, the lorry, which was travelling from Rantau Panjang, Klang, was descending a bridge when the tank coupling detached from the prime mover, causing the tank to fall onto the left lane of the highway slip road.
