Body of girl swept away found after two days in Sg Langat

KAJANG, May 3 — The body of a nine-year-old girl who fell into a drain and was swept away by strong currents in Bandar Mahkota Cheras two days ago was found in Sungai Langat near Jalan Reko today.

Kajang Fire and Rescue Station chief and operations commander Izman Adnan said Nur Qaseh Deandra Mohd Qayyum’s remains were discovered about 10.6km from where she was reported to have fallen.

“The victim was found by the search-and-rescue (SAR) team at about 12.17pm, and her identity was confirmed by her parents at around 1.20pm,” he told the media.

Izman added that the body has been handed over to the police and taken to the Kajang Hospital's Forensic Medicine Department.

He said that the rescue teams faced challenges accessing entry points to Sungai Long, but favourable weather throughout the operation facilitated the movement of personnel.

The SAR operation, which entered its third day this morning, was expanded to cover a 29km radius, including Sungai Long and Sungai Langat towards Putrajaya.

On Friday (May 1), Nur Qaseh was swept away by strong currents while trying to retrieve a ball that had fallen into a drain while playing with friends near her apartment.
