SHAH ALAM, April 28 — The rate of tuberculosis (TB) cases in Selangor remains stable, with infection rates ranging between 61 and 80 cases per 100,000 population, said the state executive councillor for public health and the environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin.
The state government, together with the Selangor Health Department (JKNS), continues to monitor developments to ensure preventive measures, early detection, and treatment are carried out effectively and consistently.
She said that as of April 4, 1,222 TB cases had been recorded in Selangor, with five districts reporting the highest numbers: Petaling (321 cases), followed by Hulu Langat (302), Gombak (199), Klang (192), and Sepang (63).
“Although TB is currently trending, Selangor is not the most serious state in terms of TB cases. Based on nationwide data, Selangor remains stable, with infection rates of only 61 to 80 cases per 100,000 population,” Jamaliah said.
She was speaking at the winding-up session of the motion of thanks for the royal address of the Sultan of Selangor during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting yesterday.
Jamaliah added that as of March 31 this year, 190 patients had benefited from the Selangor TB Treatment Incentive.
“Under this initiative, TB patients who undergo continuous treatment until recovery will receive financial incentives of up to RM800.
“The state government will continue supporting TB patients in accessing treatment by maintaining the Selangor TB Treatment Incentive in 2026, with a total allocation of RM1 million,” she said.
The councillor noted that the initiative is a joint proposal and collaboration between the state government and JKNS, benefiting TB patients.
“In fact, this TB treatment initiative is a collaboration with JKNS. Other states with higher case numbers may not have similar initiatives like Selangor,” Jamaliah said.
