Selangor gives 782 tuberculosis patients RM800 treatment aid

SHAH ALAM, Feb 16 — Selangor disbursed a RM800 treatment incentive to 782 tuberculosis patients last year, said state executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin.

She said the number of Tuberculosis Treatment Incentive recipients last year was higher than 2024’s 765 patients, when the incentive was launched, but said the hike doesn’t reflect an increase in cases; it is based on patient eligibility.

“The higher number of patients doesn’t indicate more or fewer cases. It depends on other factors like recipient eligibility and established criteria,” she told Media Selangor.

“This effort reflects Selangor’s commitment to ensure patients, especially the B40 group, can keep up consistent treatment until they are cured.

“The treatment period is usually between six and nine months. This aid is important to prevent ‘dropouts’ that could cause complications and recurring infections,” Jamaliah explained.

Applications for the aid can be submitted online on the Bantuan Sihat Selangor website

Yesterday, the Health Ministry said 503 new tuberculosis cases were reported between February 1 and 7 (Epidemiological Week 5), bringing the cumulative total to 2,571.

It said Sabah logged the most cases at 614, followed by Selangor (476), Sarawak (257), and Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (202).
