SHAH ALAM, April 26 — The Mega Road Paving Programme will continue this year despite expected increases in implementation costs due to global economic uncertainties.

State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato' Izham Hashim said discussions will be held next week with several agencies, including the Public Works Department, to decide on all aspects of implementation.

“There will certainly be an impact, particularly on premix materials. We will review all aspects to align with current prices so we can proceed with the paving works.

“So, the Mega Road Paving Programme will continue, but we will adopt appropriate methods and determine how best to address the issue of rising material costs,” he said after officiating the Selangor Korban Contribution Programme 2027 yesterday.

Under this year’s budget, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced an allocation of RM55 million for the programme, an increase of RM5 million compared to previously.

The programme, introduced in 2023, is a state government initiative aimed at comprehensively repairing and maintaining Selangor's road infrastructure.

This year, the initiative has been expanded to include village roads and agricultural areas, using new technology from Indonesia known as the Precast Reinforced System.

The technology has been tested and proven to maintain soft-soil structures more effectively, particularly in low-lying areas.

In addition, road maintenance and patching works in the state have become more efficient and faster through the use of environmentally friendly machinery known as Asphalt, Reuse, and Recycling (AsRR).

The machinery, used by InfraSel Sdn Bhd, is a Japanese paving technology based on the reuse and recycling of existing road materials.

The AsRR machinery complements the use of high-technology equipment from the United Kingdom, the Jetpatcher, which has been in use since 2024.
