SHAH ALAM, April 24 — The expansion of Swedish multinational Atlas Copco’s operations in Malaysia is expected to create more career opportunities for young Malaysians in the future, particularly as the company continues strengthening its regional operations.
Its general manager Khalid Shaikh said the company’s new facility will also serve as a training centre for Southeast Asia, where engineers receive both technical and practical training to strengthen their capabilities.
"Shah Alam was chosen as the location for the facility as it is a major industrial hub, allowing the company to remain close to its customers and key manufacturing sectors," he told Media Selangor during Atlas Copco's inauguration ceremony today.
According to Khalid, the investment for the new facility is almost RM100 million.
"The expansion reflects how Atlas Copco has grown alongside Malaysia’s economic development over the decades. In Malaysia, our industrial equipment, such as compressors, robots and vacuum systems, supports many manufacturing industries,” he said.
The company also plans to expand its Shared Services Hub in Malaysia to support operations across Southeast Asia and Oceania, including Australia and New Zealand.
Khalid also commended the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) as a key pillar in attracting investment to the country, and said that Atlas Copco looks forward to strengthening its collaboration as the company expands its shared services hub.
"Atlas Copco believes its energy efficiency and waste heat recovery technologies can help Malaysia achieve its carbon neutrality goal by 2050," he said.
Similarly, Khalid noted that ongoing global geopolitical tensions could present opportunities for Malaysia and Southeast Asia to attract more investments due to the region’s relative stability.
