SHAH ALAM, April 23 — Flood mitigation planning in the state must account for long-term climate risks, including the potential impacts of rising sea levels.
Batu Tiga state assemblyman Danial Al‑Rashid Haron said there is a need for comprehensive, forward-looking strategies to ensure flood prevention efforts remain effective in the future.
"The mitigation measures carried out in Shah Alam have already shown progress, with the number of flood hotspots reduced.
“In Shah Alam, flood hotspots have been reduced from nine locations to four through several mitigation projects such as the installation of water pumps and drainage improvements implemented together with the Drainage and Irrigation Department,” he said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting today.
However, Danial emphasised that continued planning is essential to address evolving environmental challenges and protect communities from future flood risks.
Meanwhile, the representative also proposed strengthening support for children facing developmental delays that may affect their education.
"Speech therapists should be placed at Selangor’s Selcare clinics to help children experiencing difficulties related to literacy and numeracy learning.
"Early intervention services at community healthcare facilities could help identify and address developmental challenges at an earlier stage, benefiting both children and their families," he said.
