SHAH ALAM, 17 April — The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) has assured the public that food supplies in the state are sufficient and advised citizens not to panic-buy amid ongoing uncertainty.
It has made continual efforts through its Selangor food storage operations to maintain a stable and adequate supply for the people in Selangor.
PKPS said that rice stocks are being continuously managed, with reserves progressively increasing to meet current and future demand.
Similarly, supplies of chicken and meat are readily available at its storage facilities, and production at its poultry farms has been increased to ensure a consistent supply and avoid shortages.
Furthermore, cooking oil production methods have been improved to ensure smooth distribution, benefiting the state's overall food supply chain.
Meanwhile, it revealed that the Selangor Fruit Valley is cultivating fresh produce, such as fruits and vegetables, to meet consumer demand.
“There is no necessity for panic buying, as food supplies remain stable and sufficient for all,” said PKPS in a Facebook video post.
The West Asia conflict, which sparked on February 28 with a joint attack by the United States (US) and Israel against Iran, has resulted in a near-total cessation of maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
With the recent US blockade of the Strait on April 13, which normally sees between 20 per cent and 25 per cent of the world’s oil trade flow through its channel, the energy crisis has resulted in many nations, including ASEAN members, preparing for the worst as fuel prices spiral and governments implement conservation measures.
