BANGKOK, April 8 — Thailand has welcomed a two-week ceasefire between the United States (US) and Iran, urging all parties to seize the opportunity to move towards a lasting peace in West Asia.

Deputy Prime Minister cum Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said the conflict has caused significant damage both within and beyond the region, with rising global energy prices among its key impacts on the country.

“We hope the two-week period will serve as an important step towards a sustained and permanent ceasefire, ultimately leading to peace in the Middle East,” he told the media today, while urging all parties to return to the negotiating table with sincerity and seriousness.

On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump announced a two-week suspension of military operations against Iran following mediation efforts.

In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran would halt defensive operations if attacks on the country cease.

Meanwhile, Sihasak confirmed that three crew members of the vessel Mayuree Naree, previously reported missing, have been found dead.

He will travel to Oman from Wednesday (April 15) to Thursday (April 16) at the invitation of Oman’s Foreign Minister to express appreciation for the country’s assistance in rescuing 20 crew members.

“I will also take the opportunity to follow up on ongoing discussions between Oman and Iran on ensuring the safe passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz,” Sihasak said.

Bangkok will also seek Muscat's assistance in coordinating with Iranian authorities to secure clearance for nine Thai vessels currently awaiting passage through the strategic waterway.
