Selangor to implement Tuesday-Thursday WFH policy from next week

SHAH ALAM, April 6 — The state government will implement a work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants beginning next Wednesday (April 15), as countries worldwide continue to grapple with the impact of the West Asia conflict.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said employees will work remotely from Tuesday to Thursday each week, with the policy to be reviewed monthly based on prevailing conditions, needs, and effectiveness.

"(The policy aims) to reduce fuel consumption and traffic congestion while enhancing staff productivity.

"The private sector in Selangor is also encouraged to adopt the WFH policy based on industry suitability, and the state government is ready to assist in digital technology adaptation," he said in a statement today.

The state government will also suspend official overseas travel for all departments, except for missions related to attracting foreign investment and promoting tourism in Selangor.

He added that this is to ensure the local economy, supporting industries, and employment opportunities for the people of Selangor continue to thrive.

"At the state government level, every department must coordinate efforts and programmes and operate in crisis mode.

"This war will have long-term impacts on the national and state economies, and all Selangor residents must work together to be prepared to face the challenges ahead,” Amirudin said.

The state will also announce necessary measures in response to supply issues and their impact on prices soon, with the first phase of mitigation efforts to be introduced within two weeks.

Selangor's WFH announcement today follows a similar policy rolled out by the Federal government.

On April 1, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that WFH arrangements for the public sector and government-linked companies would take effect on April 15 as a proactive measure to address the global energy crisis.

He said the decision aimed to reduce fuel consumption and ensure the sustainability of Malaysia’s energy supply.
