Gaza mission: Amirudin to facilitate aid delivery — PM

SHAH ALAM, April 4 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari has been appointed to represent Malaysia in leading the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 mission to Egypt to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

He said the decision was made due to the need for negotiations involving multiple parties, including the Egyptian and Qatari governments, as well as to oversee the large-scale shipment of aid containers, Sinar Harian reported.

“I had initially decided not to send any representative, but since this involves large shipments and negotiations with the Egyptian and Qatari governments, I needed to appoint a government representative to ease the process,” he was quoted as saying.

He said this after officiating the Madani Rakyat Programme at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah, Meru Raya, in Ipoh today.

Anwar said the appointment of Amirudin is expected to ensure smoother coordination for the delivery of aid.

He added that the situation in Gaza is currently critical and requires urgent action from various parties.

Yesterday, it was reported that Amirudin would lead the Malaysian Emergency Aid Mission to Gaza as well as the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 delegation, scheduled to depart on April 5.

The Menteri Besar’s Office said Amirudin has been entrusted to represent Anwar with the mission, organised by the Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organisations (MAPIM).
