From grade G to A, PTRS module helps student achieve 7As, 1B

KAJANG, April 3 — Who would have thought that after once obtaining a grade G in Mathematics during a trial examination, a student can now smile with pride after securing an A in the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations.

For Muhammed Fazil Muhammad Saludeen, 18, the achievement of 7A 1B was beyond expectations, far exceeding his original target of just four As.

“I never expected to obtain an A in Mathematics because during the trial examination, I only received a grade G.

“My overall results previously were 3A, 2B, 1C, 1D, and 1G. However, everything changed within five months when I began to fully focus on my studies, especially Mathematics, which I had considered my weakest subject,” he said at his home in Goodview Heights yesterday.

The second of five siblings said that the use of modules from the Selangor People’s Tuition Programme (PTRS) for core subjects: Science, Mathematics, Bahasa Melayu, and English, was among the key factors contributing to the significant improvement in his performance.

“In addition to attending extra classes after school hours, I also allocated around two to three hours a day for revision using the PTRS modules, while practising exercises and reviewing past-year examination questions.

Selangor People’s Tuition Programme student and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia candidate Muhammed Fazil Muhammad Saludeen, 18, speaks to Media Selangor during an interview at his residence in Goodview Heights, Kajang, on April 2, 2026.

“The PTRS modules are indeed high quality and greatly helped in my preparation. In the actual examination, around 70 to 80 per cent of the questions were the same as or very similar to the exercises I had done,” Fazil said.

Despite not sitting for the Primary School Achievement Test and the Form Three Assessment, he emphasised that strong support from teachers and family was his main source of motivation to keep striving.

As such, Fazil intends to pursue studies in computer science at Universiti Sains Malaysia, in line with his strong interest in technology.

Previously, Education Director-General Datuk Mohd Azam Ahmad announced that the 2025 SPM results showed improved performance, with the National Average Grade at 4.42, compared to 4.49 in 2024.

He said that approximately 366,435 candidates, or 94.29 per cent, qualified for the SPM certificate in 2025, with 13,779 achieving excellent results of A+, A, and A- in all subjects.
