Federal civil servants with commute over 8km allowed to WFH from April 15

PUTRAJAYA, April 2 — Federal civil servants stationed in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, as well as state capitals, with a one-way commute exceeding 8km are eligible to work from home (WFH) from April 15.

This was stated in a circular dated today and signed by Public Service Department (JPA) director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz, as part of measures to cushion the impact of the global energy crisis arising from the West Asia conflict.

It stated that several sectors are exempted, including security and defence services such as the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Prisons Department, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) and Immigration Department (JIM).

Healthcare personnel providing critical services, including medical officers, pharmacists, dental officers and nurses, as well as education officers involved in schooling sessions, are also exempted.

“For other eligible sectors, heads of department are responsible for determining essential services and arranging WFH schedules based on operational requirements, while the designated workplace during WFH is the employee’s registered home address in the Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS),” the circular stated.

Officers are required to use the SPOT-Me system for electronic attendance recording with hourly geolocation functions, while heads of department are to monitor officers’ presence and work output on a regular basis.

WFH days are determined according to states and their respective weekly rest days.

“States observing weekly rest days on Sunday will implement WFH from Tuesday to Thursday, while states observing weekly rest days on Friday will implement WFH from Monday to Wednesday,” the circular stated.
