KUANTAN, April 2 — Police have detained an army corporal to assist in investigations into an incident involving the assault of seven military personnel, including one who sustained serious injuries, at the 25th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment camp in Bentong on Monday.
Bentong district police chief Supt Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the 37-year-old suspect was arrested at about 2.30 pm yesterday following a police report lodged by a 49-year-old man, the father of one of the victims.
He said initial investigations found that the suspect allegedly assaulted a 24-year-old victim by hitting, punching and kicking him on several parts of the body.
“Investigations also found that there were six other victims, all of whom are military personnel aged between 19 and 22,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Meanwhile, one of the victims is unconscious, requires breathing support and is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah in Temerloh.
“The other victims have been referred to Bentong Hospital for further examination,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
Zaiham said a remand order against the suspect has been obtained for four days from yesterday.
He also advised the public not to speculate on the case as it may interfere with investigations.
