KLANG, April 1 — The Klang Royal City Council’s (MBDK) preloved clothing sale last night not only fostered a culture of reuse, but generated funds to support people with disabilities (OKU) associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), said MBDK corporate communications director Norfiza Mahfiz.
She added that the event, with its Laidback Market concept, was introduced to shift community perceptions towards used clothing, as they are still of value and can be reworn.
“For Recycling Day, MBDK came up with the idea for a Laidback Market that aims to educate the public on not disposing of their clothes everywhere, like by the roadside or in boxes to the point where residents complain, and provide them with a new approach.
“Packing and arranging clothing in a more orderly way could help people appreciate (reusable) items more,” she told Media Selangor.

The sale, held in conjunction with Women’s Day, was noticeably distinct as Klang Mayor Dato’ Abd Hamid Hussain and his wife Jamaliah Abd Aziz also contributed preloved items.
Around 300 articles of clothing, including batik and boutique attire, were contributed by the public.
Norfiza said proceeds from the sale would be channelled to OKU groups and NGOs as part of the council’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts.
She added that MBDK is planning to expand the involvement of Klang’s multiracial community and establish partnerships with more associations and corporations to empower the initiative.
Norfiza asserted that the recycling element will continue to be incorporated into each of MBDK’s programmes to shape a more sustainable, competitive Klang community.
