Selangor essential supplies stable, govt keeping eye on West Asia conflict

SHAH ALAM, March 31 — The government’s early approach in managing current challenges have borne fruit, as essential goods supplies are still stable now, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the supply of food, fuel and daily essentials in Selangor are sufficient, even amid diesel constraints due to the West Asia conflict.

“The situation is still under control so far, and we’ve seen that the government’s early steps have been effective as supplies are sufficient, even though diesel (supplies) have declined slightly.

“But we cannot be complacent. If this situation persists, we must be more prepared,” he told reporters after the Townhall X Wanita Selangor event at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building here today.

Amirudin added that the state government is monitoring developments in the Gulf region to ensure any impact on local living costs can be effectively mitigated.

“This issue isn’t limited to (West Asia), but also directly affects national energy supplies and thus influences daily goods prices.

“That is why the government must carefully assess (the situation) so it doesn’t send the wrong signals, and ask the people to be prepared for any possibility,” he said.

In a related development, Amirudin said a special briefing with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be held soon to coordinate future measures.

“Tomorrow morning, we will hold a follow-up session, while on Thursday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and I will attend a meeting and updated briefing on the current situation,” the menteri besar said.

Amirudin also urged all quarters not to take advantage of current uncertainties, but work together to ensure the country’s stability.

He explained that bigger challenges are expected in the next couple of months, especially in terms of goods supply and price hikes.

“Prices may rise, especially as diesel costs affect transport and the supply chain, but we are making early preparations to face this situation.

“God willing, with careful preparation and cooperation from all quarters, we are confident the situation will be under control,” Amirudin said.
