Ramanan denies RM9.5m allegation linked to 'corporate mafia' claims

KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat vice-president Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan has strongly denied allegations that he received RM9.5 million from businessman Victor Chin to resolve alleged 'corporate mafia' issues.

Ramanan, the Human Resources Minister, described his claims as a smear campaign aimed at tarnishing the image of the party and government MPs.

The Sungai Buloh MP said the individual had referred to several figures in his allegations, including a 'Mr R', but deliberately avoided naming the person in question.

“Do not play guessing games; name the person directly so we can take legal action. Then we can prove whether the so-called corporate mafia issue is true or not.

"If there is evidence, show it. This is a dirty narrative to bring down Keadilan by linking it to government MPs,” he said during a special media conference at the Sungai Buloh Parliamentary Service Centre today.

Ramanan added that it was illogical to associate him with individuals he had never met or known personally.

“I am aware that some irresponsible parties are trying to link me to this issue, claiming that I am 'Mr R'. The individual alleged that hundreds of millions worth of shares were transferred to me.

“I do not own any shares. I do not think any MP would be involved in share transactions worth hundreds of millions, as we have the Securities Commission and Bank Negara,” he said.

Ramanan also instructed all Keadilan division chiefs nationwide to lodge police reports regarding the allegations to enable investigations.

When asked whether he had informed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of the matter, he said that as Keadilan vice-president, he had to step forward to clarify the situation.

Ramanan noted that he did not want to burden Anwar, who is currently focused on more pressing global economic matters.
