MUSLIMS in Selangor welcomed Syawal by joining Aidilfitri sunat prayers at mosques and surau statewide, amid an atmosphere of festivity and gratitude.
Skies were clear as crowds thronged Muslim houses of worship from as early as 7.30am yesterday for takbir before fulfilling sunat prayers and listening to Aidilfitri sermons.
At Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj and Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin joined Aidilfitri prayers with the people.
Also present were Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, and state executive councillors.
After prayers, the day continued with people visiting relatives and friends’ homes; an enduring symbol of unity within the nation’s multiracial society.
Many also headed to cemeteries to visit loved ones’ graves and pray they be blessed.
A day before Syawal, even amid economic uncertainties from the West Asia conflict that could cause food price hikes, Aidilfitri preparations were well underway.
People were seen doing their last-minute shopping for clothes, lemang, ketupat, and other festive essentials to commemorate another successfully observed Ramadan.
On the first of Syawal, photographers FIKRI YUSOF, AHMAD ZAKKI JILAN, and IJLAH MUNIRAH HASBUNALLAH captured colourful moments full of merriment, during a more moderate Aidilfitri.
