SHAH ALAM, March 20 — A special meeting is set to be held after Aidilfitri to find a solution to riverbank erosion and flood risks along Sungai Sekamat in Kajang.

Local assemblyman David Cheong said immediate action has been difficult due to unclear land ownership and jurisdiction among relevant agencies.

“So far, we found the land is not under the Land Office, and when checked with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), they confirmed it is not under their jurisdiction either. That is why no action has been taken.

“I have requested a meeting after Aidilfitri involving the District and Land Office (PDT), JPS and Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj). I will attend it myself to see how we can resolve this issue,” he told Media Selangor.

He added that the meeting is crucial to coordinate responsibilities among the agencies and ensure a structured and effective resolution.

“This situation is worrying, especially for residents living along the river. I have contacted the relevant parties to ensure immediate and thorough action,” he said.

Cheong also confirmed that minor erosion causing small landslides in the area remains under control and does not pose any danger.

“The landslides that have occurred are minor, not serious, and are still safe,” he added.
