SHAH ALAM, March 19 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has urged Malaysians to remain vigilant and prepared for any eventualities amid global uncertainties, particularly ongoing conflicts and economic challenges.
In his Hari Raya Aidilfitri message, His Royal Highness said that while Muslims celebrate Syawal after a month of fasting, they should also stay mindful of developments abroad.
“I take note of current global events, especially conflicts and wars in the United States, Europe, and West Asia, which have significant impacts on Muslims worldwide.
“Therefore, in facing any uncertainties, particularly economic impact, I urge all citizens to be prepared for any eventuality and exercise caution in spending. As the saying goes, ‘prepare an umbrella before it rains'," he said in a statement issued by the Selangor Royal Office today.
West Asia is currently embroiled in a conflict since Israel and the US launched a joint offensive on Iran on February 28, killing around 1,300 people so far.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries that are home to US military assets.
Sultan Sharafuddin said the developments in West Asia should serve as a reminder for all, urging Muslims to strengthen unity and harmony while avoiding disputes and conflicts.
"We should be grateful for all the blessings granted by Allah, but we must not be negligent.
"I hope that all citizens, from leaders and politicians to ordinary people, will focus on developing the state and prospering the nation."
Sultan Sharafuddin and Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, also extended their Aidilfitri greetings to the people of Selangor and Malaysia, expressing hope that this year’s celebrations would bring blessings, happiness, and stronger bonds.
