KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 — AFA PRIME Bhd has activated a traffic management plan, including a Travel Time Advisory (TTA), to manage the expected surge in traffic on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway (KLK) and East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (LPT1) during Aidilfitri.
In a statement today, the highway concessionaire said the proactive measure aims to ease congestion at key bottlenecks, especially the Gombak, Bentong and Karak toll plazas, which are the main gateways to the East Coast.
To ensure smoother traffic flow during the “balik kampung” period on March 19 and 20, motorists travelling to Pahang are advised to enter the highway between 8am and 11am or 12pm and 4pm.
“Those heading to Terengganu and Kelantan are encouraged to start their journeys between 9am and 12pm or 8pm and 11pm,” the statement said.
For the return journey to the Klang Valley on March 23, 28 and 29, travellers from Pahang are advised to enter the highway between 7am and 10am or 7pm and 11pm. Those from Terengganu and Kelantan are recommended to travel between 10am and 1pm, 4pm and 8pm, or 9pm and midnight.
Motorists are also encouraged to take advantage of “free travel hours” between midnight and 6am on those days for a smoother journey.
AFA PRIME managing director and chief executive officer Ahmad Faizi Latifi Ahmad Faiz said the company’s priority is to improve the travel experience for highway users.
“By adhering to the TTA, motorists can help distribute traffic more evenly while contributing to a safer and less stressful journey for families going home to celebrate Aidilfitri,” he said.
AFA PRIME added that highway facilities will be optimally maintained, with patrol units and emergency response teams stationed at strategic locations to provide immediate assistance.
It advised light vehicle users to avoid peak express bus movement hours at the Gombak toll plaza between 9.30am and noon, and 9.30pm and midnight, to minimise congestion.
