Two dead, one seriously injured after skylift fall during apartment maintenance

SHAH ALAM, March 17 — What was supposed to be routine maintenance work turned tragic when two men died, and another was seriously injured after falling from a skylift at an apartment in Subang Jaya yesterday afternoon.

The 3.50pm incident was reported by members of the public via the MERS 999 emergency line, prompting a police team from the USJ 8 police station to be dispatched to the scene.

Subang Jaya district police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said initial checks found the three victims lying at the entrance area of the apartment.

“Two of the victims were confirmed dead at the scene, while another sustained head and chest injuries,” he said in a statement today.

Azlan added that both deceased suffered serious injuries to the head and several parts of the body.

“The incident is believed to have occurred while all three victims, who were foreign nationals aged between 38 and 46, were carrying out maintenance work on the fifth floor using a skylift.

“It was reported that there was heavy rain at the time,” he said.

Preliminary investigations found no elements of foul play, and the case has been classified as a sudden death.

“The bodies of the two victims were sent to the Sultan Idris Shah Hospital's Forensic Department in Serdang for post-mortem examinations, while the injured victim was also taken to the same hospital for treatment,” Azlan said.

He also advised the public not to speculate in a way that could cause public concern regarding the incident.

“Those with information related to the incident are urged to contact the Subang Jaya District Police Control Centre at 03-78627222 or 03-78627100, or any nearby police station, to assist in the investigation,” Azlan said.
