SHAH ALAM, March 16 — The Education Ministry (MOE) said that school sessions nationwide are continuing as usual for now, and no decision has been made on implementing Teaching and Learning from Home (PdPR).

Education Director-General Mohd Azam Ahmad said they is aware of public concerns following viral news about the possible implementation of PdPR.

“The MOE would like to inform that at present, school sessions are proceeding as usual. No decision has been made regarding the implementation of PdPR.

“Our priority is to ensure that children’s learning is not affected, while at the same time safeguarding the welfare and well-being of all parties,” he said in a statement today.

Previously, Azam said that the MOE would hold specific discussions to refine the Work From Home (WFH) mechanism, including the possible implementation of PdPR among school students and the ministry's civil servants, should such a policy be decided by the government.

On Thursday (March 12), Public Service Director-General Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Wan Abdul Aziz said that implementing flexible working arrangements, including WFH, is one of the key measures that can be used to ensure the continuity of government operations.

He added that the step is important in facing an increasingly uncertain world due to geopolitical conflicts, disasters, or public health crises.

Tensions in West Asia have reportedly escalated since February 28 following attacks by Israel and the United States (US) on Iran, which were later followed by retaliatory strikes by Tehran against US interests in Gulf countries.

Following this, on Wednesday (March 11), the Thai caretaker government instructed relevant federal agencies and state-owned enterprises to implement a WFH policy as an energy-saving measure amid geopolitical uncertainty in West Asia.

On Tuesday (March 10), Vietnam’s Trade Ministry urged local enterprises to encourage employees to work from home in an effort to reduce fuel consumption following supply disruptions and rising prices caused by the conflict involving Iran.
