SHAH ALAM, Mar 16 — Selangor received around 3,000 to 4,000 consumer complaints in 2025, with the top three issues being pricing, online transactions, and misleading products, said Selangor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) director Muhammad Hanif Asa’ri.
The volume of complaints highlights the need for ongoing consumer education, with several thousand of them lodged being related to Ramadan bazaars.
“Last year, the highest number of complaints we received involved pricing, followed by online transactions, and misleading products.
“During Ramadan, most complaints related to the prices of bazaar goods and other essential items.
“The rise in complaints actually reflects higher consumer awareness. Complaints are good because they show that consumers know their rights,” he said during a media conference at Rahmah Ramadan Bazaar Section 17 today, one of the KPDN’s main initiatives, with 16 locations across Selangor.
However, specific figures for this year’s Ramadan bazaar complaints are not yet available.
Meanwhile, during the launch of the state-level National Consumer Day 2026, Hanif said the initiative aligns with the World Consumer Rights Day, which is celebrated annually on March 15.
The event coordinated by Selangor KPDN is in collaboration with the state government and local authorities.
“This year’s theme, ‘Our Voice, Our Power,’ encourages consumers to actively express their opinions, provide feedback, and report any fraud to the appropriate channels,” he said.
Hanif added that the National Consumer Day programmes in Selangor focus on consumer awareness and education rather than enforcement.
“Throughout the year, we organise various programmes to raise awareness about consumer rights, including the right to lodge complaints if goods or services do not meet standards or prices are unreasonable,” he said.
In conjunction with the National Consumer Day celebrations, KPDN will also roll out several other programmes, including the Ihsan Foodbank, Aduan Suri, Prize Catcher, and Kita Pengguna campaign, as well as public competitions for schools and communities.
