JAKARTA, March 12 — Indonesia’s fuel and gas supplies remain sufficient to meet domestic demand, as the government prepares mitigation measures to cushion the impact of global energy price fluctuations on the state budget.
ANTARA news agency reported Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya as saying that the assurance was given during a meeting today, chaired by President Prabowo Subianto, with the National Economic Council (DEN) and several ministers, to discuss global economic developments and energy security.
“We will continue to monitor developments in global energy prices and prepare mitigation measures to ensure the impact on the state budget remains manageable,” he said.
During the meeting, Prabowo also emphasised the importance of strategic measures to strengthen national economic resilience amid global uncertainties, and the need to accelerate energy self-sufficiency programmes to reduce Indonesia’s reliance on global energy supplies.
“President Prabowo also stressed the need to accelerate energy self-sufficiency and strengthen government digitalisation, including through pilot projects for the digital distribution of social assistance to improve the efficiency of national spending,” Teddy said.
The President also urged government agencies to remain vigilant amid evolving global dynamics and ensure policies are ready to safeguard national economic stability.
Earlier, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia reassured the public that fuel supplies remain available nationwide and urged people not to panic-buy, noting that Indonesia’s fuel storage capacity is limited.
“Our fuel storage capacity in the country is no more than 25 days. Currently, available stocks are equivalent to about 23 days of capacity.
“However, this does not mean the fuel will run out in 23 days; it reflects the storage capacity,” he said.
