SHAH ALAM, Mar 10 — The Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) will expand its regional footprint with the launch of the inaugural SIBS@ASEAN edition in Bandung, scheduled for July 9 and July 10.

Invest Selangor Bhd chief executive officer Dato’ Hasan Azhari Idris said the location in West Java, Indonesia, was selected as the host city as its economic profile closely mirrors Selangor’s role as the main economic driver in Malaysia.

“The economic profiles are more or less similar. West Java is one of the largest contributors to Indonesia’s economy, while Selangor is the biggest contributor to Malaysia’s economy,” he told the media after the SIBS Direction Outlook 2026 Panel Forum and fast-breaking event at the Concorde Hotel today.

Hasan added that the Bandung summit forms part of SIBS@ASEAN, a new regional initiative aimed at transforming the summit into a cross-border business platform as supply chains across Southeast Asia continue to evolve.

“SIBS@ASEAN marks our next chapter. As regional supply chains realign, Selangor is positioning itself as a regional connector,” he said during the forum.

The regional summit will highlight several sectors, including automotive, aerospace, medical tourism, and education, as Indonesia represents a significant market for Selangor-based businesses.

Hasan said about 50 Selangor-based companies are expected to participate in the Bandung edition.

“The sectors we will bring include the automotive and aerospace industries, while the exhibitions will also feature areas such as medical tourism and education.

“We have many higher education institutions that are open to international students, and we see Indonesia as a large market,” he said, noting that Selangor also has a strong healthcare ecosystem capable of attracting regional visitors.

“While Melaka and Penang are very active in medical tourism, Selangor also has many excellent medical centres, including those in Kuala Lumpur,” Hasan added.

Meanwhile, the annual trade summit SIBS 2026 is scheduled to take place from October 14 to October 17 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), reflecting the 10th anniversary of the state’s flagship investment event.

The upcoming edition will also introduce three new summits: the Selangor Techsphere Summit, the Selangor AI and Semiconductor Summit, and the Selangor International Care Expo, together with existing programmes like the Selangor Asean Business Conference and the Selangor Investment and Industrial Park Expo.

Additionally, it will also include the Selangor Investment Forum, which will focus on the main industries, and the Selangor Career Outreach Talent Expo organised in partnership with SOCSO to help bridge talent gaps linked to new investments in the state.
