SHAH ALAM, March 10 — Only 20 per cent of personnel from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in the state will be allowed to take leave during Hari Raya Aidilfitri, while the rest will remain on duty to ensure it maintains optimum preparedness throughout the festive season.
Selangor JBPM director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said firefighters at fire stations are also allowed to take leave on a rotational basis to ensure emergency operations can be carried out smoothly should any incident occur.
38 fire stations in the state will operate and remain on standby 24 hours a day to respond to any eventuality throughout the Aidilfitri celebration period.
“This step is important to ensure that any incidents such as accidents or fires can be dealt with immediately,” he said during the launch of new fire engines at the grounds of AEON Mall Shah Alam today.
Razali added that JBPM has also intensified fire safety inspections at business premises, particularly at locations with large crowds such as shopping centres.
The inspections aim to ensure all fire safety systems, including fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, sprinkler systems, and emergency exits, are in good condition and functioning properly.
“Thus far, 152 business premises have been inspected by JBPM since January as a preventive measure to reduce the risk of fires,” he said.
This effort is part of the department’s preparations to ensure public safety is maintained throughout the Aidilfitri celebrations.
