SHAH ALAM, March 9 — Drainage maintenance works will be carried out immediately in Taman Desa Kiambang, Serendah to address flash floods that occurred following heavy rain last week.
Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) Zone 16 councillor Aylwin Chan Wai Tuck said a site visit was conducted together with officers from the Hulu Selangor Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to assess the actual situation in the affected area.
He said the inspection identified several main causes, including clogged drains, stagnant water areas and a river filled with sand deposits, which have disrupted the smooth flow of water.
“Several hotspots have also been identified and require immediate cleaning and maintenance works to ensure water flow returns to normal.
“This step is important to reduce the risk of recurring flash floods in the area,” he said in a Facebook post.

He added that follow-up action will be carried out through cooperation between the local authority and relevant agencies to ensure the issue is addressed comprehensively.
He said cooperation between government agencies and the local community is crucial to ensure issues affecting residents’ safety and well-being can be resolved more quickly.
“Issues affecting the people cannot be allowed to drag on. Follow-up actions will be monitored from time to time to ensure the planned improvements truly benefit residents,” he said.
