SHAH ALAM, Mar 8 — The 120-metre tall flagpole at Dataran Selangor stands as a symbol of state pride, sovereignty, unity among the people and loyalty to the royal institution.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said he hopes that Dataran Selangor will become a gathering space for the public, bringing together people from all backgrounds and strengthening racial unity.

“Thanks to the Selangor Public Works Department for its expertise and commitment in realising this historic project.

“I would also like to thank the Selangor State Secretary (Dato’ Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin) and the state government team for ensuring that the project and today’s ceremony went smoothly,” he said.

Amirudin said this when delivering his speech in conjunction with the Selangor flag-hoisting ceremony at Dataran Selangor (Selangor Square) here today, which was officiated by Sultan of Selangor Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.

The Menteri Besar said the state flag, measuring 15 metres by 30 metres and weighing about 50kg, is made of high-quality materials to withstand wind and weather.

Previously, the 99-metre flagpole in Kuching, Sarawak held the record as the tallest flagpole in Southeast Asia.

The new flagpole at Dataran Selangor surpasses that height by 21 metres.

The flagpole, located atop the hill of the Shah Alam Selangor Club, also enjoys a visual advantage, making it more prominent and visible from various parts of Shah Alam.
