SHAH ALAM, March 6 — KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM) performs weekly and monthly internal audits to ensure its contractors adhere to operational standards and meet key performance indicators (KPIs) in managing Selangor’s solid waste collection service, said KDEBWM managing director Dato’ Ramli Mohd Tahir.
“We do roll calls to ensure local drivers have licences and complete documents and we have enough workers before an operation is conducted,” he told Media Selangor.
He added that the audits allow KDEBWM to assess contractors’ performance from the aspects of adherence to collection schedules, number of complaints, and area monitoring established in the KPIs for each service zone.
“When audits are done, we reassess and recheck agreements made with the contractors. Each zone, company and contractor has KPIs that must be met to ensure collection operations go smoothly,” he said.

Ramli said KDEBWM, which has served Selangor since 2016 and is in its 10th year of service, has clear standard operation procedures, including issuing correction, reminder, and compound notices to errant contractors.
“Every month, we attend meetings with local authorities on (our) performance in each zone and area,” he explained.
He also said that if a company fails to reach its minimum KPIs, KDEBWM will conduct on-site analyses to identify the cause.
“(Reasons like) why there aren’t enough workers, why aren’t there local drivers, or why are lorries so damaged they cannot enter the area on time… All these matters are studied by our team to identify the cause before immediate corrective action is taken,” he added.
KDEBWM also performs spot-checks on subcontractors and stores audit data for monthly reviews to ensure optimal operations, he shared.
“Right now, there are 1,303 lorries under KDEBWM and we make sure all of them comply with established audit specifications to ensure more orderly and effective solid waste collection services in Selangor,” Ramli said.
Previously, Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) Zone 10 councillor Ahmad Zahiri Zahid Sofian said that six weeks ago, it was a challenge when public complaints increased due to inconsistent waste collection schedules in several areas.
Zahiri urged that KDEBWM operations be improved and suggested the company conduct periodic performance audits to ensure waste collection service standards are satisfactory.
