SHAH ALAM, March 1 — The Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) is strengthening its cooperation with KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) to address issues of delayed and recurring rubbish collection in several areas under its administration.
The Star Metro reported that its President Shahman Jalaludin said they are identifying the main causes of the problem, including locations that frequently experience rubbish overflow, to ensure more effective solutions can be implemented.
The increase in solid waste following several festive celebrations earlier this year has placed significant pressure on collection operations, but improvement efforts are underway.
“Although we assess the contractor’s performance as good and satisfactory, we will continue to ensure they achieve an excellent standard,” he said during the MPS full council meeting at its headquarters in Bandar Baru Selayang.
Shahman also acknowledged that certain locations continue to face recurring issues despite cleanup work.
“Sometimes after we clear a location, by the afternoon, there is already new rubbish piling up,” he said.
At the same time, MPS Zone 10 Councillor Ahmad Zahiri Zahid Sofian described the situation six weeks ago as challenging, with public complaints rising due to inconsistent collection schedules.
He urged for stricter monitoring and periodic performance audits of KDEBWM to ensure service standards are maintained.
Meanwhile, MPS hopes the number of complaints will decline after March once operations return to stability.
