SHAH ALAM, March 5 — The state government will continue giving book vouchers to university students in Selangor this year to foster a reading habit and love for knowledge among youth, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the initiative is set to benefit 10,000 university students, compared with only 4,000 last year, with an overall allocation of RM2 million.
“Each university student will receive a voucher worth RM200 to buy their favourite books,” he said in a Facebook post today.
He added that the initiative is a form of investment in human capital that is important to producing a knowledgeable generation, which is key to Selangor’s progress.
Amirudin also opined that reading physical books could help university students improve their attention span and foster an interest in gaining knowledge.
