KOTA KINABALU, Feb 24 — The number of flood evacuees in Sabah dropped to 1,695 as at 8pm today, from 2,432 in the afternoon.

The Sabah State Disaster Management Secretariat said the decrease was due to the closure of all temporary relief centres (PPS) in Tawau, which had accommodated 245 people.

“Currently, only the Pitas district remains affected by flooding, but the situation is improving. Some 1,695 people from 861 families are being housed in five PPS,” it said in a statement tonight.

It added that 46 villages in the district were still affected by the floods.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department had forecast thunderstorms tonight in several areas in the interior, west coast, and Kudat.
