BAYU eases financial burden, opens pathway for Selangor students to higher education

KUALA SELANGOR, Feb 24 — The Bantuan Asas Yuran Universiti initiative (BAYU) is providing a new ray of hope for students by easing their families’ financial burden and opening opportunities for Selangor youths to pursue their higher education dreams.

Recipient Nur Khaleedah Roslee, 22, said she is deeply grateful to have been selected for the assistance, which she described as financially helpful, with an application process that was simple and swift.

“This BAYU assistance truly provides an opportunity for Selangor youths to further their studies at higher education institutions.

“I also aspire to continue my studies at the doctoral level and hope to open a nursery or kindergarten in the future,” she told Media Selangor.

Meanwhile, fellow BAYU recipient Muhammad Danial Hafiz Shafie, 20, said the assistance helps his family cover tuition fees each semester throughout his studies at Universiti Selangor's (UNISEL) Bestari Jaya Campus.

The aid also enables his family to make savings for daily expenses, as only his mother is working while his father is disabled due to diabetes.

“I also intend to follow in my mother’s footsteps as an English teacher and wish to educate children to the best of my ability,” Danial said.

For the record, BAYU is a state government initiative worth RM500 per semester to assist students at state-owned higher education institutions, particularly UNISEL and Universiti Islam Selangor.

On Sunday (February 22), Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari also presented a symbolic mock cheque worth RM3 million to BAYU recipients at UNISEL's Bestari Jaya Campus.

Through the initiative, RM17.38 million has also been allocated to implement the Education Fee Subsidy for state-owned higher education institutions in 2026.
