SHAH ALAM, July 28 — Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation) or MBI continues to strengthen the education sector by distributing laptops worth approximately RM150,000 to 28 university students in need.
Its chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the assistance is part of the foundation's annual initiative to ensure students from lower-income families have better access to learning resources.
"Every year, Yayasan MBI allocates around RM150,000 to provide laptops for university students. Today, we handed them over to 28 recipients.
"We have also received applications through state constituency service centres, and the laptops will be distributed through the respective state assemblymen to the eligible recipients.
"Recipients not only receive a laptop but are also provided with free Selangor Internet Data for one year. We hope they will make the best use of this contribution for their university studies," he told the media after the handover ceremony at Yayasan MBI's office today.
Azri added that applications for the educational assistance continue to increase each year.
"This year, we received many applications, but the eligibility criteria require the household income to be below RM4,000 and applicants must be studying at public higher education institutions, with the exception of private higher education institutions located in Selangor.
"We will do our best to assist everyone who applies, provided they meet the stipulated requirements," he said.
Meanwhile, Ishveenaa William Robert, 18, expressed her gratitude after receiving the laptop, saying she would no longer need to borrow one from her housemate to complete assignments.
"I am very happy to receive this laptop from Yayasan MBI. Thank you. I have a laptop at home, but it no longer works because it is broken.
"Now that I have this laptop, I will not need to borrow my roommate's anymore. I will use it throughout my studies to complete my assignments," she said.
Another recipient, MARA Professional College Indera Mahkota student Siti Zulaikha Tuan Yahafez, 19, said the new device will greatly support her studies in the Digital Creative diploma programme.
"My course requires a modern laptop because we work with editing software, After Effects, and other applications. My previous laptop often had problems and ran very slowly.
"I am very happy to receive this laptop because it will make studying much easier. Alhamdulillah (God be praised), I had really hoped to get one," she said.
