WCE warns of heavy traffic returning to Klang Valley this weekend

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 20 — West Coast Expressway (WCE) has urged motorists to plan their return journeys, as traffic is expected to build up towards the Klang Valley this weekend, following the end of Chinese New Year (CNY) festivities and school holidays, and the approach of Ramadan.

In a statement today, WCE said the heaviest congestion is expected from mid-afternoon until late evening on the inbound route to the Klang Valley, with daily vehicle volumes projected to exceed 160,000.

“Unlike the more spread-out outbound wave earlier in the holidays, this return journey is expected to be more concentrated, driven by the rush to resume routines ahead of Ramadan's early days,” it said.

WCE advised motorists to plan ahead and depart early in the morning, where possible, to avoid peak afternoon and evening congestion, and download the WCE app for real-time traffic updates and live closed-circuit television (CCTV).

WCE also urged road users to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, to observe speed limits, to wear seatbelts and remain alert.

It reminded motorcyclists that the emergency lane is strictly for emergencies and not an exclusive motorcycle lane.

“Electric vehicle (EV) users can recharge at high-capacity stations on the Perak stretch (Trong toll plaza, and Taiping Selatan toll plaza) and Selangor stretch (SAE toll plaza, Assam Jawa toll plaza),” it said.

In case of emergencies, travellers can contact the WCE infoline at 1700-81-6600 for immediate assistance.
