MB gives serious attention to Sg Buloh Reserve pollution issue

SHAH ALAM, Feb 10 — The issue of pollution and the accumulation of rubbish in the Sungai Buloh Reserve area is now being given serious attention following a complaint raised by Ijok state assemblyman Jefri Mejan to Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said he had a direct discussion with Amirudin about the issue, which had previously caused concern among local residents.

The discussion received a positive response, giving hope that follow-up action would be implemented on the ground by the relevant agencies.

“Alhamdulillah (God be praised), there is light at the end of the tunnel. The rubbish issue at the Sungai Buloh Reserve is finally being taken seriously.

“The response received from the Menteri Besar was very good and positive. Thank you for your concern,” Jefri said in a Facebook post today.

He added that the public is now awaiting concrete action on the ground to ensure the river reserve is preserved and no longer exposed to pollution that affects the environment and the well-being of the local community.

“The people are waiting for real action on the ground, and the relevant agencies are expected to carry out their responsibilities firmly in order to safeguard the river reserve, the environment, and our shared well-being,” Jefri said.

The assemblyman raised the issue of pollution in the Sungai Buloh Reserve on Thursday (February 5), stressing that the area is not a disposal or landfill site but rather a natural retention area that controls flooding.

Activities involving illegal dumping and landfilling that undermine the river’s function are believed to still be taking place, including the presence of illegal dumping sites, as evidenced by the discovery of newly dumped waste and on-site activities.

He revealed that dumping of used engine oil had been detected in the area, which could pollute the Sungai Buloh River and damage the ecosystem, prompting calls for immediate action to restore the river reserve's original function.
