KLANG, Feb 10 — Visit Selangor Year (VSY) 2025 has delivered impressive results, attracting 8.42 million visitors last year, surpassing the original target of 8 million. The state government aims to build on this momentum in 2026, setting its sights on nine million visitors.
State executive councillor for local government, tourism and new villages Dato' Ng Suee Lim said the state government will continue tourism promotion activities this year to align with Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2026.
He clarified that the visitor count only includes those who spent at least one night in Selangor, excluding day-trippers or transiting visitors, to ensure the statistics accurately reflect the economic impact of tourism.
Speaking at the state Lunar New Year media dinner last night, Ng said VSY 2025 will continue into this year to match the nationwide tourism campaign. The 2025 theme was ‘Surprising Selangor’ while this year’s theme is expected to be ‘Selangor Kan Ada’ (‘Selangor does have everything’).
The Selangor government had set a target of eight million visitors and RM11.7 billion in tourism revenue for 2025.
Ng added that the state government will adopt a more proactive strategy in tourism development this year and continue working toward established goals.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari is also expected to present the second Selangor Plan (RS-2) in mid-2026.
“Selangor’s total revenue in 2025 reached RM3 billion, a record high, further solidifying its role as Malaysia’s economic engine while showcasing the state as a harmonious, progressive, open-minded society that embraces diversity,” he said.
New tourism sustainability fee
From January 1, 2026, the Selangor government will introduce a tourism sustainability fee for guests staying in hotels and homestays across the state. During the first three months, the government will focus on education and awareness, without taking punitive action.
Ng said this period will allow operators and tourists to familiarise themselves with the registration and payment process, and he thanked businesses for their cooperation.

He emphasised that Selangor’s success in ecological conservation, infrastructure development, tourism services, and promotion relies on collective effort. “We aim to make Selangor Malaysia’s most attractive tourist destination and instill the idea that exploring Malaysia starts in Selangor,” he said.
The fee will be tiered as follows:
5-star hotels: RM7 per night
3-star or lower hotels: RM5 per night
Unrated hotels: RM3 per night
Homestays and airbnbs: RM2 per night
