PPAS: Registration for basic classes in eight languages still open

SHAH ALAM, Feb 9 — The Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) has announced that registration for the Language Discovery 2026 programme remains open despite a high volume of user traffic.

Its director Datin Paduka Mastura Muhamad said that since the programme was announced by Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari during the tabling of the 2026 Selangor Budget in November last year, it has continued to attract strong public interest.

For the 2026 edition, the state government has announced a RM500,000 special initiative to support the learning of eight languages, aimed at encouraging people in Selangor to acquire a third language.

“For your information, registration for the language classes today has received an overwhelming response. This has also been a new experience for us.

"Therefore, we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience experienced during the registration process.

"We truly appreciate your patience and support, and at present, PPAS is doing its utmost to improve the registration system so that the process can run more smoothly and comfortably for everyone,” she said in a statement.

Registration for the language classes will remain open as free quotas are still available. Should the free quotas be fully taken up, the public will still have the opportunity to enrol in classes for all eight language options, available through alternative slots, at a subsidised rate of just RM10 per hour.

This measure is intended to ensure that opportunities to learn foreign languages remain accessible to all at the lowest possible cost.

PPAS fully appreciates the strong public interest in mastering foreign languages and will continue to monitor the registration system's performance and stability to ensure a smooth and efficient user experience throughout the registration period.

“We extend our thanks to the language tutors and staff who have worked together to make this programme a success. Once again, thank you to the Menteri Besar for announcing this initiative, which is in line with his message to ensure that no one is left behind,” Mastura said.
